L- Pours a clear, Ruby Red with a thin, tan head. Got d lacing.
S- Malt bomb with hop bitterness. Candied citrus fruit.
T- Taste follows the nose with a huge malt backbone. The Mosaic is wonderfully citrus bitter and hangs around a long time. These two indepentent tastes work wonderfully together. Almost a slight cherry taste.
F- The malt and Mosaic hop creates a wonderful mouth feel that is bursting with flavor and warming bitter.
O- I have had almost Ll their beers, and this is their best effort. I have rated reds much higher than most people, and the addition of wonderful mosaic hop does it for me. First had Friday night with their golden keg event in which the first one is free on release day.

Brewer’s Description!

Red XIPA with mostly Madam and some Mosaic hops. Really good red IPA...piney, clean finish! Dee-lish!

Happy Thursday, Beer Leaguer! We hope your holiday was great and you freedomed the hell out of some fireworks and BBQ at your friends and families house. Your Captaineers had a long evening with two dogs spanning seven legs being scared to death of fireworks. But that didn't stop your Captain from sampling all the beers at the BBQ and digging up some new goodies for League! Let's talk some about this weeks beer and see where we are going.

Hint: We're going into a future populated by citrus fruits.

Brewer’s Description!

[brewerydb_beer id=jXASyj]

The Highest High: 4.79 / 5

Bought this primarily for my love of grapefruit yet want for a more complex and hearty version of a radler. The grapefruit in this is one of the strongest and most perfected undertone in a pale ale I've ever tasted. Not super sweet. Perfectly bitter. Very smooth to drink. Favorite part was pouring it into a bubbly red wine glass... The gunk I was initially concerned about at the bottom spotted the beer like stars across the sky. I'd add a photo if possible but I highly suggest seeing it for yourself.

The Lowest Low: 3.08 / 5

Bottle to pint glass. Look is bright gold, small white head. Globules of Sediment make it ugly, I've tried pouring as slowly as possible and Leaving a Good 1 oz in the bottle, but it always shows up. Aroma is faint lemon, citrus. Taste is grapefruit, some hops, but not enough for an ipa. I'm no hophead, but this needs a bit more. Still tasty, I love grapefruit in ipa. Poor man's Graprefruir Sculpin.

Who is Bent River Brewing?

Bent River Brewing Company was conceived by Tim Koster of Koski Home Brew Fixen's Ltd. April 1993, Koski Home Brew Fixen's, opened its storefront in downtown Moline. In the fall of 1996, the Bent River bar opened to the public without brewing equipment in that location.  It would be a couple years before the first keg of their American Pale Ale flowed from the beautifully-polished, Bohemian Brau Haus copper kettles.

Daytrotter Pale Horse

The beer is made with both Azacca and Hüll Melon hops, also known as Huell Melon. The former is known for complexity, imparting an array of citrus and tropical fruit notes that has made it in high demand, including in Founders’ popular all-Azacca pale ale. The latter varietal is even more unique, noted for unusual fruit aromatics of honeydew-like melon and even strawberry, which isn’t a description one tends to ever see in American hops. It promises a pale ale that is equal parts refreshing and easy-drinking, but curiously unique.

QC Haze

QC Stands for Quad Cities

4/5

Hazed darkish orange, nice froth lace. Nice juicy hop aroma. Minty pine. Same in taste, real minty. Very soft malt, real nice drinking doesn’t seem too strong. Very smooth and soft, impressive. Mild citrus . Heavy juice, very hoppy fresh. Thought this was a double, guess not? Just had a hoptimum and this is comparable, not as strong but maybe better. Ridiculous hop juice, not kidding.Toppling Golieth level ipa , as I think they are king of Iowa.

Uncommon Stout

Gold in color with a fingernail of off white foam on top. The aroma is of light grains and of grassy German hops. I'm tasting exactly what the aroma advertised: Light grains and grassy German hops. The mouth is light, crisp, and quaffable.

Burning witches...ha ha!

Looks like your basic pale ale on this one. Quite the thick foam on top. Smells a bit corn husky, and maybe a tad old. No date on the bottle, so no idea how long this has been sitting on a shelf.

Tastes really weirdly bitter. We're not talking normal hop bitter, but something more akin to cornmeal.

When the side of the bottle says serve cool, listen to it on this one. This is an ale that would benefit from some severe icing down.

Brewer’s Description!

[brewerydb_beer id=iJL8kR]

3.39/5

Pours a hazy, straw color. 3/4 inch head of a white color. Great retention and decent lacing. Smells of strong wheat, slight pale malt, hint of citrus, earthiness, hint of yeast, and a hint of hops. Fits the style of an American Pale Wheat Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. There is also a slight metallic taste. Tastes of floral notes, strong wheat, hint of citrus, hint of yeast, hint of pale malt, and a hint of hops. Overall, average appearance, good complexity, metallic taste is distasteful, and the blend is quite weak.

3.72/5

This one pours a hazy, golden yellow color with a fluffy white head of foam. It has a nice crisp, cracked wheat aroma. It has some floral notes with sweet breads and a slight bitter tang.

Angel and The Sword seems like an odd name for a peace offering, but hear us out. Sometimes you just have to blend cultures. Toledo, Spain is an UNESCO World Heritage Site called “the city of three cultures” for the continuous coexistence of Jews, Christians, and Muslims since ancient times. They haven’t always gotten along, at times horrendously so, but they do their best. Iron sharpens iron, as their good books say. An area famed for sword production, our favorite monument remains Juan de Ávalos' "statue of peace" outside Alcázar fortress, representing a winged female holding up her sword to the sky. Here is a great craft beer which IS NOT IPA. A departure from true-to-style brewing, we put a little bit of everything we've learned into this uniquely inclusive expression. Biscuity and bittersweet, familiar and unfamiliar, way more going on than its light color and alcohol content would suggest. Let us raise our goblets to the sky in one accord.

Brewer’s Description!

ABV: 4.6%
IBU: 32
COLOUR: Clear golden amber with white foam
BJCP STYLE: Who knows? Maybe 23. Maybe 11C. It actually doesn't fit neatly into any one BJCP category.  It's English Yeast, English Hops and our favorite malts from all over the world.  It's a hybrid of sorts!
NOTABLE INGREDIENTS: Diverse US and UK malts, timeless Fuggles & Goldings hops, ale yeast.

4.5/5

This was the best American made ESB I have found. The aromas and flavors were spot on for the style. I wish I has easy access to this - I would drink it all the time. A must try from Civil Life.
