This week at Beer League we're embracing the winter weather here in St. Louis and matching it with Accumulation IPA, a seasonal offering from New Belgium Brewing. Straight from the New Belgium website, they say:
"This winter, IBUs start accumulating like snow in Colorado with our new ACCUMULATION WHITE IPA . Brewing a white IPA was not only a way to salute the white beauty falling from the sky, but a direct revolt to the longstanding tradition of brewing dark beers for winter and WINTER SEASONAL BEERS . At least that’s what our rebellious brewer Grady Hull likes to claim as he shovels in plenty of new hop varietals and a bit of wheat for a smooth mouthfeel. Stack up a few cases of Accumulation White IPA to keep your long nights glowing blizzard white."
We've also completed a short survey of a few Beer Leaguers who have previously had Accumulation. On called it, "A sneaky, go-to white IPA" and another was drinking 'em yesterday. So the consensus so far is that it's delicious and we should drink them. Good news, everyone!
We take the highest and the lowest and give you the bestest

Silky smooth, piney and aeromatic... This IPA ranks up there with the big boys! There is only a subtle bittersweet presence of hops and this delicate balance of spice dangles innocently on the tongue. Watch out for this sneaky bastard. Quite lovely and dayum luscious!

Normally I would not rate an IPA.... but since New Belgium packages this as a "Winter Seasonal Ale"... I feel the need to be harsher to the style... I do not like IPA’s... and the 12 pack case didn’t identify this as an IPA... There you go... too hoppy for me. I hear Winter Seasonal - I think dark heavier ale.. this is not that style... just another IPA.
Bonus stamp, you say? Heck yeah - you can have a bonus stamp! Get yours by trying a Pedal Hard Ginger Beer.
So we'll see you on tomorrow night for an Accumulation IPA and some great big hugs for everyone. These big hugs are really important to all of Beer League, this week more than most.
We lost a good friend of Beer League to cancer last week - our co-conspirator, friend, gaming partner, beer drinker, and the giver of the world's best hugs. Ryan was many things to many people, but at the end of the day he was a friend to all who met him. Many of us at Beer League are still coping with a world without Ryan. We're going to take a minute tomorrow night to toast this great man - you're more than welcome to say a few words if you wish.
Another Beer Leaguer has put together a GoFundMe for Ryan's family, with more information available at the site.
Ryan's family & friends are hosting a celebration of his life on Sunday in Maplewood. More information here.
Sara & Emily are going to Adopt-A-Family (or two or three) - and TWR is a drop-off point for donations. It's another way for Beer League to give during the holidays! In addition to what has been donated on their GoFundMe, the patrons of TWR donated an additional $446 on Thanksgiving Eve!
