Beer League @ TWR: O’Fallon Brewings King Louie Toffee Stout

Another week, another Beer League – another chance to voice your opinions about another fan-tastic beer. This week we have two 1/6 barrels of O’Fallon Brewing’s King Louie Toffee Stout. It’s somehow different than King Louie Winter Stout, somehow, but I’ll eat my hat if someone can find information about this beer on O’Fallon’s website! I’ll do what I can to muddle through some other reviews – but it looks like this might be a re-birth of the Winter Stout, with more Toffee. Like candy from Grandmas purse. But booze. And less lint.

Looking through this sweet media-blast from Brewhound, they describe King Louie Winter Toffee Stout as:

King Louie Toffee Stout was created in collaboration with Bissinger’s Handcrafted Chocolatier of St. Louis. The velvety stout is full-bodied and was developed using a proprietary toffee blend that’s ideal for the brewing process and has hints of caramelized sugar and vanilla. It is brewed with Magnum hops and a variety of malts to create the perfect balance between soft chocolate, caramel and roasted notes that highlight the toffee flavor. King Louie is 6.3 percent alcohol by volume, 26 IBUs and will be priced at parity with other O’Fallon brands. It will be available in six-packs and on draught November through March 2015.

Feast Magazine has a simliar write up, but say:

St. Charles-based brewery O’Fallon Brewery and St. Louis’ Bissinger’s Handcrafted Chocolatier have collaborated to create King Louie Toffee Stout, which will be available in six-packs and on draft beginning in November through March.
The full-bodied velvety stout was brewed with Magnum hops, a variety of malts, a special toffee blend recipe and hints of caramelized sugar and vanilla. The result is a balance between soft chocolate, caramel and roasted notes that highlight the toffee flavor, at 6.3 percent alcohol by volume.

Despite not knowing the actual name of this beer, I have a direct quote from a Jimmy who owns TWR as saying, “This weeks beer O’fallon “King Louie Toffee Stout” on draft!!! 2 1/6 barrels sitting in my cooler! It’s soo good.” All I’m sayin’ is if you don’t trust Jimmy, who do you trust!?

There are a few beer related events we need to talk about that are coming up with a quickness.

On January 17th, get ready for Schlafly Cabin Fever! This four-hour tasting costs a whoppin’ $26 and takes place on Saturday, January 17th, from 12-4 at the Bottleworks. As is tradition, we will meet at TWR @11 and pile everyone who plans on attending into cars with sober drivers to go to and from the event. Please RSVP HERE if you’d like to get in on the free rides!

And coming up on January 31st, the STL Science Center is hosting Science on Tap – a 50 beer tasting at the STL Science Center. At $50 / pop it’s a bit pricier than Cabin Fever, but hey, it’s a lot swankier than a parking lot, too. I won’t even try and paraphrase what they have to say, so here’s some copypasta for your enjoyment:

Join Starlite Events at the Saint Louis Science Center on January 31 for a beer-tasting event for your brain. Learn about the chemistry and science behind the entire beer brewing and bottling process. This event will feature 50+ beer tastings, science demonstrations, live music and more! This total sensory experience will let you be hands-on with some of beer brewing’s most popular ingredients. Learn how different colored glass affects the taste of your beer, discover how buoyant your beer is and compete against your friends in our beer-goggles challenges.  Event highlights include:

  • Complimentary Parking
  • Over 50 beers to taste
  • Culinary Creations using Local Beers
  • Live Music from Trixie Delight Acoustic (7-8:30pm) and The Jeremiah Johnson Band (9-11pm)

If that’s not enough beer-related events for you, you better tell us and we’ll get it added to our list! See you tonight for an O’Fallon King Louie Winter Toffee Stout! Or five!
