What a week it’s been so far, Beer Leaguer. The weather is changing faster than Superman’s underpants here in St. Louis, and its hard to not be mad about chipping the ice off your car just to drive in to work. But don’t worry, Beer League is here to alleviate some of that pain with the beers we’re offering up this week. Hope this helps!
This week’s beer is really two beers, but one only one stamp. I know what you’re thinkin’ – two beers is two stamps – but we’ll figure it out. Our regular (if Beer League is ever regular) beer for this week is Boulevard Brewing’s Nutcracker Ale.
Before we put the cart ahead of the horse and talk about the beer you’re not going to get stamped for, let’s refresh our memories on Nutcracker Ale. The delightfully cheery Boulevard website says that, “Nutcracker Ale is Boulevard’s holiday gift for real beer lovers. This hearty, warming brew is a classic winter ale, deep amber in color, with hints of molasses balanced by the “spiciness” of Chinook hops.” Considering I’m one of those weirdos who really, really loves beers of the winter persuasion, this is obviously music to my ears.
The second beer we’re going to sample is Bourbon County Brand Stout from Goose Island. When James spoke to his beer rep on Monday, he asked the rep how many half-barrels of this beer he had sold in his area. The answer was, “One. To you.” So to put that in perspective, of the very few barrels that came into St. Louis, TWR is the only bar in that rep’s area for his distributors area. Love it.
Holy mother of dusky raisin and chocolate goodness put that into my mouth yesterday, and every day until we are out.
Tomorrow night’s gonna be alright.
I hope you’re getting your gift together for WHAT’S IN THE BOX? A very Beer League Gift Exchange on Christmas Eve. The trophy is still in the planning stages, but I assure you that it will be just as shitty of a trophy as was given away last year for the ugly sweater contest. But with less fake snow and more glitter.
